Sport

Participation in sport is very much encouraged in our school. We believe it is a hobby and an interest for life. Many of our past pupils have continued their G.A.A. and other sporting interests at local and national level.

G.A.A.

Camogie: There is camogie training for all girls from Third to Sixth Class weekly except during the very cold winter months. We participate in the Sciath na Scol Cup Competitions in the spring, the indoor camogie for Rang V, and in the mini-sevens outdoor competitions. We won our section of the camogie competitions in 2009.

Football: There is football coaching in the First Term and our school team participates in the Sciath na Scol Football competition and in the mini-sevens.

Tennis

Coaches come from Cork Parks Tennis in six week blocks to teach tennis to all classes from Senior Infants to Sixth Class. We have two hard courts in our school so these are used for coaching except in bad weather when we can use a mini-court in the gym.

A school team participates in the Parks Annual Competition which is played over a day at Sundays Well Lawn Tennis Club every June and we have been victorious in this competition on many occasions.

Swimming

All classes from Second to Sixth have an opportunity to go swimming in the local pool, Leisureworld, for an hour each week for a blocked ten week period in the school year. We enter our best swimmers for the Munster Championships each year and if successful they may qualify for the National Championships.

Athletics

All students in the school are given the opportunity to develop their skills in athletics. All students complete at least 6 weeks of timetabled athletics lessons per term with their class teacher.

They also take part in athletics initiatives such as the 'Marathon Challenge' and the 'Stride for Ten'. A highlight of the year is always the participation of the school in the Cork Primary Schools Sports.

Girls from the school compete in both sprint and relay races. In 2016, the school was awarded the Ardfield Shield for being the most successful team in their category. The girls had a great day in C.I.T. on Wednesday 15th March when this years participants were chosen.
