Active School

This is a child page of Sport

In February 2017 Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Cailini was awarded the Active School Flag. This flag is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a more physically educated and physically active school community.

The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often. As part of the process Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Cailini improved provision across three main areas - Physical Education, Physical Activity and Partnerships.

All classes in the school have at least 60 minutes of Physical Education a week over the course of the school year. This is in addition to lots of other active breaks and activities which occur throughout the school day.

Students in our very active school are lucky to have the opportunity take part in such activities as tennis, orienteering, golf, swimming, gymnastics, athletics, yoga, camogie and gaelic football to name just a few.

The school holds an active week in the third term of each year to further
promote physical activity. The Active Week in 2016 was a great success with children taking in part in such activities as scavenger hunts, orienteering, sports days, teachers vs students competions and sports table
quizzes.

Girls from 3rd to 6th Class also took part in a Marathon Challenge' which involved groups of students runnning the full marathon distance of 26.2 miles by running laps of the school yard. Olympic marathon runner and past pupil of Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Cailini Lizzie Lee ran the last laps of the challenge with the girls and presented them with their certificates.
