Gardening is a fun and practical way to learn about science, nature and food production.  Here in Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Cailíní, we are fortunate to have a working garden, with a number of raised beds, where the children have been growing a variety of fruit and vegetables for the past number of years.
Last year, our garden produce included potatoes, onions, garlic, leeks, lettuce, apples and rhubarb. The pop-up garden shop, last June was a great success.
The children had to weigh and bag the produce, decide on a competitive selling price and calculate the correct change, for their customers; all this adding to their real life maths skills.
